PRACTISING GRATITUDE

G’day mate,

Today I wanted to talk about something a bit different. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a blog post like this but I felt like it’s important that I write this down not only for the benefit of others but to also hold myself accountable.

I am guilty of not always appreciating the little things but aren’t we all? It’s unfortunate that in todays materialistic and consumer driven society it’s not uncommon to forget to be grateful and content with what you have.

We get so caught up in everything that we want we often forget to appreciate the little things.  I’m sure we all know someone who has thrown around their old phone in hopes of breaking it so they can get the new IPhone.

I went through a rough patch not too long ago where I was very unhappy and just wasn’t myself. My mum asked me why I hadn’t been happy lately and I replied with “Because I can’t find any reason to be”. My worldly-wise mother replied with “what do you mean? you’re perfectly healthy, you have a wonderful life, a loving family! What’s not worth smiling about?”

Surprise, surprise! My mum was right. Most of my worries went away and whatever worries were left I accepted them and moved on. Sometimes even the most simple thing is worth a smile, worth gratitude.

So before I end this blog post I just wanted to leave you with some food for thought.

I found all these quotes in Erin’s book “Chasing Slow”, I highly recommend this book if you are wanting to practise gratitude or even pursuing a minimalistic lifestyle.

  1. Isn’t it funny how parents are always right in the end? Lol I am grateful for the given…my life and the people who are a part of it. But lately I have been practicing gratitude for the Earth. Spending time in nature soothes my soul and really puts things into perspective for me🌿

    1. Haha yeah, it’s annoying sometimes but very helpful when parents are right. That’s awesome, I think it’s great that you are becoming more aware of the environment, I definitely agree that being in nature is very calming. Thanks for commenting 😊 xxx
